500 episodes. Seven+ years.
This is the one I didn't know I was building toward.
When I started #thePOZcast, I was just a recruiter with a Yeti mic and a curiosity about people and why and how they do what they do.
I had no idea that 500+ episodes later, I'd be sitting across from a fellow cancer survivor, a journalist, an author, and a founder, and be sharing my own journey.
I was diagnosed with Stage 3A Hodgkin's lymphoma in February of 2025. I finished treatment in September 2025. I'm now 3 scans post-remission.
Geoffrey Rogow was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at 30. He's been in remission for more than a decade. And he spent the last several years interviewing 270 cancer survivors, building After Treatment (a platform serving 20 million cancer survivors in the US), and writing his upcomming book: I'm Alive: Now What?
We talked live, in my NYC studio, for almost two hours. About everything nobody prepares you for.
The fertility decisions must be made within 4 days.
The financial bills that arrive eighteen months after treatment feel like mistakes, some of which are actually illegal.
The loss of your eyebrows. (Nobody tells you about the eyebrows.) Oy!
The scanxiety doesn't diminish with time and sometimes gets worse.
And for me, the cancer imposter syndrome that comes with a high-survival-rate diagnosis.
π And most impactful to many, the identity that's neither better nor worse after treatment .... just different.
Geoffrey shared a framework that I'm implementing immediately: a biannual check-in. Scheduled. In the calendar. β΄
β A structured evaluation of whether you're on the path you want to be on professionally, relationally, and personally.
Not in the moments of crisis. In the moments of calm.
And he closed with the question (to me) that landed hard:
π "Are you getting the support you need?"
Not a dig at the support you're receiving. Just the honest, periodic question.
Because what we went through is not nothing. And the work doesn't end at remission.
This episode is for everyone who has had Cancer. The Survivors & Thrivers. For everyone who loves someone who has.
For everyone who is going through it right now.
And for everyone who has reached a milestone and wondered what they were really building toward.
Episode 500. This is it.
